Elvis Presley – An Icon In The History Of Rock And Roll


Elvis Presley was undoubtedly one of the most famous stars in the History of Rock and Roll. He was a cult icon, who was loved by audiences all across the world. The beautiful definitions which he gave rock music in his soulful and wonderfully throaty voice made the genre what it is today. Indeed, rock music would have never reached its current status of popularity without the contribution by Elvis Presley. He is thus rightly known as the King of Rock and Roll.

He shot to fame in 1956, when the History of Rock and Roll was just unfolding itself into the exciting phenomenon that it is today. This form of music was extremely popular, and started by some local musicians who chose to mix the elements of gospel music with ancient classic music. There was also a dash of rhythms added, which gave the music its rebellious, yet extremely soul stirring touch. This form of music was becoming extremely popular among the youth, who identified with the rebellious form of music. It managed to stir some chords in them, and rang true in their hearts. Elvis Presley, through his contributions to the genre was a live example of this form of music.

His first song – “Heartbreak hotel” was one of the biggest sensations in the History of Rock and Roll. This was followed by several other albums, all of which were extremely popular. One of his most famous songs is “Blue Suede shoes”. Elvis sang with a wonderful combination of naughtiness and honesty which made him very appealing to almost all the women in America and other countries as well. He stayed away from music for almost 7 years, following his military experience after which his songs did not receive so much of acclaim as usual. He then returned later to give some smash hits. Unfortunately, he died at the ripe age of 42 in 1977 due to prolonged drug abuse.
